As a photographer and content creator, I am always on the hunt for breathtaking locations that inspire creativity. Recently, I travelled to Dunnesdrangar in the Faroe Islands, a place that feels like stepping into a fantasy novel. Towering sea stacks rise dramatically from the North Atlantic Ocean, framed by rugged cliffs and an endless expanse of moody sky. It’s the kind of place where every turn offers a postcard-worthy scene.
Discovering the Faroe Islands
Nestled in the North Atlantic, the Faroe Islands are a photographer’s paradise. Known for their untamed beauty, they are a collection of 18 rocky islands connected by tunnels, ferries, and bridges. The islands boast dramatic cliffs, lush green hills, and a climate that shifts from misty to magical in minutes.
The journey to Dunnesdrangar was an adventure in itself. Navigating rugged cliffs with heavy gear tested my endurance, while the unpredictable weather added a sense of anticipation and excitement. As you near the cliffs, the crashing waves and salty sea breeze create a setting that feels almost otherworldly—a paradise for photographers chasing the extraordinary.
For this adventure, I was armed with the perfect tool to elevate my creative workflow: the ColorPro VP2786 4K monitor. With its stunning colour accuracy and sharp display, it became an indispensable part of my post-production process.
Let me take you behind the scenes and show you how this amazing experience turned into a photograph I’m truly proud of.
Step-by-Step: Capturing and Editing the shot
Bringing the magic of Dunnesdrangar to life wasn’t just about luck—it took a blend of thoughtful planning, creative vision, and the right tools. From setting up my drone to the final tweaks in editing, every step played a part. Here’s a look at how I turned raw snapshots into a picture that tells the story of this wild, incredible place.
Step 1: Setting Up the Drone
Dunnesdrangar is a dream location for drone photography. The sheer scale and beauty of the cliffs and sea stacks demand a bird’s-eye perspective. For this shoot, I chose the DJI Mavic 3 Pro, using its panorama mode in the vertical pano setting. This clever feature captures three separate photos and stitches them together, creating an image with more vertical leeway than just a single shot.
Before launching the drone, I paused to soak in the incredible scene around me. Timing was everything, and I wanted to ensure the conditions were just right. With the drone ready, I followed these key steps:
- Shoot in RAW: Always set the camera to RAW mode to retain the highest level of detail and quality.
- Adjust ISO to 100: This helps reduce noise and ensures optimal clarity.
- Compose Carefully: Centre the frame, taking care to balance the elements, and then press the shutter to capture three individual photos.
These steps helped me get the drone shots just right, setting the stage for an incredible final image.

Step 2: Combining the Images
Once the images were captured, the magic truly began in post-production. Back at my desk, I imported the three raw files into Lightroom. Using the Photo Merge > Panorama feature, I combined the files into a single image. This step allowed me to create a breathtaking composition that truly captured the grandeur of Dunnesdrangar.
Here’s what worked for me:
- Choose Cylindrical Panorama: This option preserves the natural perspective of the image, avoiding unnecessary distortion.
- Set Boundary Warp to 100: This fills in the edges seamlessly, ensuring no part of the composition is lost.
With a single click on ‘Merge,’ I was ready to move on to the most creative part of the process—editing.

Step 3: Editing the Final Image
While the Faroe Islands themselves are breathtaking, the magic doesn’t stop when the camera clicks—it’s just the beginning. To make the image truly stand out, I moved on to the editing phase, fine-tuning every detail to highlight the natural beauty of the Faroe Islands.
This is where using a high-performance, colour-calibrated second monitor alongside my MacBook Pro 16-inch made all the difference. This dual-screen setup allowed me to dedicate one monitor to precise colour grading while using the other for comparison and workflow navigation.
Steps to bring the image to life:
- Apply a Preset: I started by applying my go-to custom preset (grab it for free here!). It’s my favourite way to kick off an edit and instantly set the mood.
- Fine-Tune the Details: Lightroom’s masking tools were my best friend in this phase. I used them to enhance the interplay of light and shadow, making those dramatic cliffs and sea stacks pop.
- Clean Up the Scene: With the healing tool, I tidied up small distractions so the viewer’s attention stayed where it should—on the stunning landscape.
- Perfect the Frame: A little cropping went a long way to balance the composition and create a smooth, natural flow.
This phase wasn’t just about tools and techniques; it was where my creative instincts took over. As I worked through editing, I kept returning to the feeling that inspired me at Dunnesdrangar: awe, wonder, and connection to something greater. My secondary monitor’s superb colour accuracy ensured every subtle texture in the cliffs and every vivid hue of the ocean was perfectly captured.
The result? A shot that feels as wild and untamed as the Faroe Islands themselves.

It allows you to multitask effortlessly, from editing photos in Lightroom to grading footage in Premiere Pro or designing digital art. One screen lets you focus on fine-tuning details, while the other provides a broader perspective for comparisons or timeline navigation.
After six months with the ColorPro VP2786-4K monitor, I can confidently say it has transformed how I work with its exceptional colour accuracy and sharp 4K resolution. The additional screen space has completely changed how I approach creative projects. I’ll often have my Premiere Pro timeline open on one screen and playback or reference materials on the other, keeping everything smooth and intuitive.
Whether you’re working in a studio or, like me, from the edge of the world, this monitor feels like it’s designed to fit your flow. Portable, precise, and built for the way creatives work today, it’s a reliable partner wherever your creativity takes you.
Reflecting on the Creative Process
Capturing and editing a scene like this is both exhilarating and meditative. It’s a process where technical precision meets artistic intuition, with every step building towards a final image that tells a unique story. What I’ve learned is that having the right tools doesn’t just simplify the process—it unlocks creative freedom. With a reliable workflow and a high-quality monitor, every subtle hue, texture, and shadow can perfectly align with your vision.
So, wherever your next creative journey takes you, equip yourself with tools that inspire confidence and let your creativity guide the way. Trust in the process and remember: it’s in the details—the colours you refine, the compositions you balance, and the stories you craft—that your work truly comes alive. It’s not just about capturing a scene; it’s about evoking a feeling that resonates with your audience.
